Street Angels help local churches to address anti-social behaviour and dangers and issues within the night-time economy. Street Angels is part of ROC (Redeeming Our Communities).
"Thanks to all the Street Angels for the work that you do. The role you carry out in aiding those that are worse for wear over the weekend is an important one, and you have our thanks and respect for it."

Activity

Groups of volunteers work in the community providing practical support to help people, order taxis and diffuse tension. They also have a safe place where people can stay warm, get refreshments and sober up before going home. Teams also offer chaplaincy support to those who work within the night-time economy.

Time

It may take around 3-6 months to set up a project. Most projects run every Friday and Saturday night from 9pm to 3am, but this may be less frequent. Other teams work daytime or with homeless communities depending on local needs.

Cost

A typical project will cost between £4,000 and £8,000 per year, which includes uniforms, use of premises, first-aid equipment, training, tea and coffee, small float for taxi fares and volunteer expenses.

Partnership

CNI Network can advise you on the best way to connect with the local police, local authorities, night-time businesses, town centre management, Police and Crime Commissioner and other key partners before setting up a project.

Support

CNI Network provides support, training and advice. Projects will receive volunteer handbooks, equipment lists and links to other projects.

Resources

Volunteers work on the streets, inside club and pub venues, with homeless communities and may also have a café-style or caravan space where people can come. Teams need flip flops, water, first aid equipment, tea & coffee and a small amount of cash to pay for taxis. Volunteers also need uniforms.

People

A large group of volunteers with DBS checks and first aid training will need to work in shifts on a Friday and Saturday night. You could also have another team praying for them. Some projects employ a full or part time member of staff to co-ordinate the project.
