STAR tackles the community issue of addiction and destructive habits through a community approach. We upskill churches and volunteers with confidence and knowledge to help people in/affected by addiction.

Activity
We take a team through a 5 session upskilling stage, which can be in person or on our online learning hub. The church will receive STAR approval and then we help and encourage the church to put this into practice through providing a range of professional and personable resources to utilise in their settings e.g. courses, programmes, mentoring.
Time
On average it takes a church 3 - 6 months to attain STAR approval and then the journey is ongoing as we provide support and encouragement to the church to build sustainable recovery communities that ultimately encourage and help teams whilst seeing impact with people in need of support.
Cost
Membership for a church costs £20 a month for 10 volunteers to be upskilled, with a higher amount based on numbers. Internally at STAR we require funding to assist in the running of the charity and to be able to deliver high quality upskilling and resources to the growing UK network that are wanting to do more in addiction.
Partnership
We value collaborative working and partnerships so at STAR we help churches to look at the wider picture of their community and engage with other organisations.
Support
We have a full package of training, and resources that can be delivered online or in person. To help keep a churches costs to a minimum we offer resources that can be printed internally at the churches discretion. Our staff team and dedicated volunteer helpline are set up to assist teams at every step of the way.
Resources
It is advised to have 1 or 2 people that will be the "STAR Coordinators" for the church who we can liaise with and then a team will be formed, yet we also assist in helping the culture of a church to be ready to embed addiction ministries.
