Someone Cares brings hope into healthcare. We link local churches with healthcare chaplaincy services to provide practical, spiritual and emotional support to patients, their families and the wider healthcare community.
"The link between Alder Hey and Freedom Church, through Someone Cares, has been an amazing blessing to our patients, families and staff alike."
Activity
Supporting a local healthcare chaplaincy service through offering a team of volunteers for regular pastoral visiting, plus practical items for patients and the chaplaincy service. Whole church involvement can be through prayer support, assembling practical items and through one-off activities that utilise specific skills within the congregation, as needed by the chaplains.
Time
This is very dependent on the chaplaincy team and the healthcare setting that you are supporting, but around 3-6 months to set up the project could be expected. Once up and running, the project is ongoing.
Cost
We are currently setting up Pilot Projects with no set-up fee or subscription costs for the first 12 months. After this, the cost is £25 per month to be part of Someone Cares. Training for your first four healthcare chaplaincy volunteers is included, after this there is a cost of £75 per person for the chaplaincy volunteer training course.
Partnership
You will form valuable partnership links with the local chaplaincy team and the healthcare setting that you support. In addition, we encourage churches to work together to support healthcare chaplaincy where possible, and to also involve the local community in collecting and assembling practical items to bless patients at the hospital.
Support
You will receive ongoing guidance and support from the Someone Cares UK team. Your healthcare chaplaincy volunteers will receive 6 hours of live online training to equip them for the pastoral visiting role. Project leads and all volunteers will also have access to the ever growing online Someone Cares Resource Hub.
Resources
You will be supporting a chaplaincy team within their own healthcare setting, meaning that no physical resources of your own are needed. If you chose to provide practical items then space to assemble and store these is helpful but not essential. Volunteers will need internet access for the volunteer training and Resource Hub.
People
You need a minimum of only two volunteers to start a Someone Cares project. One of these volunteers acts as the Project Lead. The volunteers do not need prior experience although an ability to pastorally support people through difficult seasons is important.
