Housing Justice enables local churches to help the homeless in their communities by setting up a Night Shelter to offer accommodation to those with nowhere to sleep during the coldest months of the year.
"The Housing Night Shelter gives the local churches an amazing opportunity to come together to respond to a real need in the local area."

Activity

From November to March, local churches take it in turns to offer space for people to sleep as well as a warm meal, hospitality and support.

Time

It will take around 6 months to set up a project. Between November and March, you'll need a team of volunteers on hand every night of the week.

Cost

It costs £1,500 to register with Housing Justice and receive the training and support to set up a Night Shelter. Other costs include, food, bed linen and toiletries.

Partnership

Housing Justice will help you to connect with housing authorities and other organisations working with the homeless in your area as well as social services that you can refer people to.

Support

You'll receive a toolkit and guidance from Housing Justice, to help you plan and establish a successful project.

Resources

Churches in your area will need to provide space for up to 15 homeless people to sleep and practical items such as camp beds, bed linen, hot food and toiletries.

People

You will need a steering group to run the project and a big team of volunteers to welcome guests, make food and provide support.
