BRITE Box supports families by providing weekly meal kits with fresh ingredients and easy-to-follow, child-friendly recipes. Designed to be fun and family-centred, it encourages children to take the lead in cooking, building confidence, life skills, and healthy eating habits, while helping families to learn budget-cooking, save money, and enjoy quality time together.
“BRITE Box has brought something really special into our home. Cooking together has helped my children grow in confidence, and it’s taken away so much stress around food. It’s practical, encouraging, and has helped us reconnect as a family.”
Activity
Deliver an established BRITE Box programme by preparing and distributing weekly meal kits, using centrally provided recipes, order sheets, and planning tools, and partnering with local schools or working directly with families connected to the church.
Time
Set-up may take around 3 to 6 months, depending on partner readiness. Delivery then runs for up to 36 weeks across the school year, with families receiving a weekly BRITE Box. We often begin with a pilot term, starting small and scaling according to need, capacity and funding. Weekly delivery takes 1 to 2 days, plus coordinator oversight.
Cost
Set-up costs typically start at around £500, which covers initial planning, resources, and training. Running costs vary depending on economies of scale; the number of families supported and the length of time the project runs. Each BRITE Box costs around £11.50 per family per week. Overall costs are flexible and can be tailored to local capacity, funding, and need.
Partnership
Churches will need close partnership with local primary schools, who identify families and manage weekly communication and distribution. Support from volunteers, transport partners, and local food suppliers is essential for packing and delivery. Local councils and funders support long-term sustainability, alongside wider community organisations that form a strong local ecosystem.
Support
Churches will receive step-by-step guidance and ongoing support, including a BRITE Box launch and set-up guide, operations manual, recipe guides, branded resources, and standard communications. We provide access to shared tools, recommended suppliers, regular check-ins, peer learning with other partners, support with evaluation, and guidance in exploring local funding opportunities.
Resources
Churches will need an accessible venue with fridge/freezer space, storage for ambient food, and basic packing and food prep facilities, including handwashing and washing-up areas. They’ll need basic prep equipment and food safety registration. Adequate personnel and volunteers are required for weekly coordination, sourcing, packing, delivery, printing labels/recipes, and managing relationships, reporting, and ongoing due diligence.
People
Churches will need a lead coordinator/small core team to manage weekly coordination, sourcing, food storage, packing, and delivery. Volunteers (for 2-3 sessions) support ingredient preparation, box assembly, printing, and safe handover to families. The lead coordinator will also help maintain relationships with schools, ensure food safety, manage due diligence, and support reporting and evaluation to keep the project running smoothly.
